GENERAL STUFF

Gwenhwyfar's "canon" is a mixture between the Arthurian romances and mostly from Welsh mythology. I used a lot of "Branwen, Daughter of Llyr", "How Culwch Won Olwen", and especially "The Dialogue between Melwas and Gwenhwyfar". I lean heavily on "Le Mort d'Arthur" and "Knight of the Cart" when I pull from the romances. If you have your own interpretation of King Arthur mythos? Hell yeah, hit me up! I love it, I'm a junkie, and I love to talk people's ear off about it.  This also includes literally any media of King Arthur, I do not care, no judgment here, even if it's Avalon High. You wanna do a thing? We can totally do a thing.

Gwenhwyfar's world is purely an invention of my own, taking a lot of inspiration from Welsh and Irish mythology, as well as history. Now, I'm not going to claim I'm 100% historically accurate, but I try to approach her story with history, particularly Wales and Ireland, circa late 5th century to early 6th century. I want to be a stickler for it, but Gwen's story is something I try to heavily research and I'm still trying to find more information to build up her world.

backtagging  Go for it!
threadhopping Unless it's private, go for it
fourthwalling I'm cool with this if your character is familiar with Arthurian lore.
offensive subjects Violence against women and children and her demonic blood. Also if you rag on anyone that's not human or isn't extreme Christian, Gwen will take full offense.

physical contact Yes! She enjoys physical contact
romance If it works, I'm for it!
fighting She's not afraid to fight
injuries or death Injuries? Yes. Character death? No.
Mind-reading/Manipulation A case by case basis, run it through me first
timeline Well, since she's an OC, that would be, uh.... late 5th century Wales? But if you want to be technical, Gwenhwyfar's main inspiration comes from a few texts:

  • The Dialogue of Melwas and Gwenhwyfar
  • The Manbinogion (specifically, "How Culwch Won Olwen" and "Branwen, Daughter of Llyr")
  • Welsh Triads
  • Spoils of Anwnn
  • Bits of Le Mort d'Arthur
  • Knight of the Cart
Gwenhwyfar's character concept draws heavily from the pre-Christian stories, but there are some things I drew from the classics, like Mallory, TH White, Troys, and Monmouth.

Shipping Gwenhwyfar is very open to shipping, just don't expect her to be monogamous (surprise). Gwen is a very M/F boring character.
Off limits I am not keen on anything that eliminates consent of characters. Suicide, sexual and physical abuse, and self-harm are very upsetting subjects for me, so I'd like to avoid them. Body horror is a case-by-case basis for me as well. And most definitely, if you're not LGBTQIA friendly, then I would rather not deal with the hassle. Thankfully, that's never been an issue, but hey.

Supernatural permissions

Since Gwenhwyfar is a half-demon, I'm fine with others noticing her presence. She, too, can sense otherworldly beings, but for the sake of not stepping on toes, I try to ask first or I am going to be very vague about it. If something does come up, please let me know. Otherwise, go wild, Gwen is bursting with demonic energy.
